An idea is born, PSGB+ASAB meeting in London (2015)

The combined meeting of the Primate Society of Great Britain and the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour in London in 2015 had a wide range of researchers presenting their work on Culture. Notably, there were many early-career researchers present at this meeting. A great networking opportunity. And so, the idea to connect like-minded ECRs was born.

First semi-organised meeting in Birmingham (2016)

In the following year, some of us met prior to the Culture Conference in Birmingham. I rallied people from the previous meeting in London. Our first element of networking? A printed list of names, affiliations, and email addresses. And a fab visit at the pub.

First workshop in Manchester (2017)

Only a couple of months later, we held our first official workshop in Manchester. Several participants came by plane from all over Europe. The two day event was a total success.

A second meeting in Birmingham (2017)

Six months later, many of us would meet again at a pre-conference meeting in Birmingham. At the third Culture Conference.

Second Workshop, St Andrews (2018)

In 2018 we continued our efforts with the second annual workshop. This time in Scotland. In addition to a great workshop we also had an opportunity to network during our evening long cèilidh session. On the last day we held our first annual general meeting, forming our society, and deciding for a place for the next workshop (Leipzig).

Members meeting at CES in Tempe (2019)

The Culture Evolution Society held its second conference in Tempe, AZ. Another great opportunity for new and existing members to meet at another pre-conference meeting.

2019 Workshop in Leipzig

The society was well established by now and we had no problem to fill our third annual workshop at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. This workshop was a lot more hands on than the previous ones, with several programming sessions.
